As early man learned to respect and control the elements in his world, fire was essential. The respect for this element was given not only because of it's great benefits, but also from the fear of the great devastation it could manifest.
The honor was often given to one member of the tribe to keep the "flame" alive for cooking and transporting the all important coals to various camps. This fireman was revered for his ability to keep this element for it's use to the peoples.
As people developed more control over the element of fire, it was used for many wonderful uses. It's energy steamed our nation and the industrial ages. The firefighter's role became increasingly important, and his knowledge of how to "control" the element grew.
For those who have led the way to control of fire's devastation in our lives we give honor and respect. To those that have become the Hero that has saved a life from the rage of a fire we promise to keep that memory in our hearts.
Our hearts will hold forever the flame of love, a flame that is kindled by honor and respect and can not be extinguished by death.
